There is no typical day when it comes to employee relations. The issues I deal with are very unpredictable.  It could be that the day is filled with lots of calls from Managers in cinemas who require advice relating to ongoing disciplinaries, grievances, appeals, absences or Occupational Health Cases. I am largely involved in guiding managers through the correct processes, which could be through things like constructing policies, assisting them in meetings, and drafting documentation.

There are several things I enjoy about Vue: I am surrounded by supportive people that are willing to impart their knowledge. There are regular opportunities for us to come together as a business and be updated on the company’s plans, progress and upcoming films. The great benefit of watching free films with discounted goods, and the random occasions when you are given the opportunity to attend a premier, go to a free concert or have a free Starbucks coffee. Being able to develop close relationships with the managers and helping them through day-to-day issues.

For anyone thinking of joining Vue I would say go for it. You have nothing to lose. It’s really interesting to learn the ins and outs of the cinema industry. You’ll be surprised at how much work goes in to building the cinema experience, plus it’s a chance to meet lots of new people with various areas of expertise. The company looks for people who are hard working, professional and driven but who also see the value of having some fun and building relationships.
